"Euclid (WiP)", June-July, 2007. Digital painting in Photoshop.

Full view, so it'll look extra-creepy.

This here, is Euclid;

"[Euclid] is a giraffe with zebra stripes that fires lightning out his eyes and exhales flour."

Thus were the instructions I was given by the band Gelatin Offramp -- [link] -- when I was commissioned to design the cover of their upcoming album, The Return of Euclid. Euclid was a character the lead singer (my cousin, btw) and his friend came up with way back in elementary school (in geometry class maybe?).

Some characters stick with you, y'know?

Anyhow, I call this a work in progress, but Euclid as you see him is done. The work that still needs to be done is getting the proper size for the album artwork, working on typesetting, color, etc. But Euclid is pretty complete right here.

He's really creepy up close too *shudder*. But I like how it came out.

This is astounding!The way you've depicted the stripes but also maintained the musculature underneath is wonderfully done!Very shiny & futuristic,but you get a sense of real muscles & power...very cool character!!:D

Thanks. The odd design credit goes to the band. I added all the musculature (which probably isn't totally accurate) just to make the creature more disturbing.

:Dwell it looks very convincing!![I shall keep an eye out for the disc cover when they make it huge:P]
Should be fascinating to see what you do with the piece!!

Actually the disc is out. It was a limited release, begin their second self-produced album. It ended up with Euclid over a similar green background, with the band's logo (which I also designed) floating behind him. They wanted something pretty simple to pop the creature on the cover.

That has got to be the coolest giraffe-esque creature I've ever seen. Indeed, he does look very creepy with those glowering eyes, but the detail you've put on him looks amazing. All of the muscles appear amazingly accurate and realistic! His legs amaze me (probably because if I could tell you one animal I can't draw, it would be anything with hooves) with the knobbly joints and the muscles! The various highlights and shadows only add more to his overall awesome-factor.

wow this looks even better full view. nice work! also, i think i prefer the red BG to the green, but its a different feel for both colors. Plus, the green BG may pop him out more.
