"The Raptor #1 (of 4) cover" November, 2012. Digital drawing in Manga Studio EX 4, colors in Photoshop CS2.
I know I've been a bit quiet here, but that's cos I was working on finishing something. From the above, you can guess what.
THE RAPTOR #1 is finished!
...but you can't have one. Not quite yet.
Digital versions of the book have gone out to Kickstarter backers - the people who made made it financially possible to do the book. I've had a few bounced emails, and I'll follow up with those, but for the most part, everyone has been sent links to the book.
As for everyone else, you'll have to wait a bit. Kickstarter backers know this, but I'll share this here as well; I'm trying to get a publisher, so I can't offer this for sale in hardcopy or digital form quite yet. Hopefully by the end of January I'll know what's happening. If I get a publisher that I want, great. If I don't, well, I'll self-publish, and make it available in print and digital.
But for now, if you're not a Kickstarter backer, you can only enjoy this cover above, or the 18-page preview book, still available as a free download. [link]
As for this cover, like I mentioned previously, I wasn't happy with the semi-cliché cover I had originally made (which became the cover for the preview book). I wanted something much more design-y. So I've ended up with the stark, nearly-abstract shape of Raptor's body, the bloody camera (a story element), and a background composed of video clips (another story element) overlaid on the city, with near-ethereal falcons nearby.
I got a thumbs up from Philip Hester, so I'm counting this as a win.
