A Bad Xerox?

Sat Oct 10, 2009, 2:33 PM
Well, it finally happened. I found on dA a drawing obviously swiped from one of my drawings.

I'm not furious a) because this is obviously an amateur, teenage artist, and even I did a little swiping back then, and b) the head is facing in a different direction.

I'll take it as flattery this time.

Now, I won't post a link to the piece or artist, and I won't say anything more than it was a Doctor Who piece (and not from photo reference -- so they didn't use the same source if that's what you're thinking).

Anyway, I guess it was bound to happen.

Sadly, they didn't swipe what I consider a good piece. A popular piece of mine, no doubt, but not a good one.

Ah well.

It wasn't mine, was it? The koala would surely give it away! :#1:

By the way, has it shipped out yet?

I will. And remember, imitation is the sincerest form of flattery. Unless it's homework, which is just cheating.

I would consider reporting it as art theft, using the system on DA for doing so. Many kids just don't understand copyright, so he probably has no idea he did anything wrong. Its not your responsibility to teach him, but it couldn't hurt.

If he had done an exact copy (or an attempt thereof) I would've... as it stands, I'm very eh. I'll note you the image, and you can tell me what you think.

Honestly it's not bothering me, and it's not like he got a ton of comments complimenting him on "his" work.

Plagiarism? That's how I got through high school -- though I hear they have programs to check for that nowadays. ;)

Take it a flattery :)

*facepalm* I can't decide if you should be flattered or insulted by the poor effort.

Arrrgh, now that's a bit of a downer. Well, even if you aren't absolutely livid about it, you talked to this artist, right?

...Please tell me that this artist didn't OMGS I SO DID NOT on you.

I know someone that had to be told that blatant tracing was wrong. She didn't think it was that bad, but when every part of it was traced...ehhh, doesn't work out so well.
